Jamila Tucker designated the "Outstanding Graduate Student" in the UK College of Medicine!

The UK College of Medicine held its annual Awards Convocation on October 19th, and 5th year grad student Jamila Tucker received the award for "Outstanding Graduate Student."  She is shown in the photo to the right receiving the award from her dissertation advisory committee member and Senior Associate Dean for Biomedical Education Dr. Beth Garvy. Each of the six basic science departments that are part of the Integrated Biomedical Sciences PhD Program can nominate up to three students each year for this prestigious award but only one is selected to be recognized for "demonstrating continued success in academics and research and service to the University and community".  I think that Jamila won it because she really has excelled in ALL of these areas publishing papers, winning awards at scientific conferences, acting as a mentor to high school and undergraduate students in the lab, taking on leadership roles as the president of the UK ASM Student Chapter, and outreach to the community.  We are extremely proud of her!
